What are the suspicious areas of the car where rain may get into the right rear corner of the car?
A small puddle forms in the vacant space behind the rear wheel. A small contribution may be from the drain in the fuel filler cap area because the drain pipe is split at both the top end (near the fuel cap) and the lower end where it joins another drain pipe (is this from the sunroof). I intend to replace this pipe. However, the majority of the water seems to come from near the Rear Hatch Locking Catches but I have cleared both of muck and poured water through both successfully.p, without an overflow. I am currently spraying talcum powder everwhere in an attempt to trace the leak(s). Any suggestions please?

The light seals are a common culprit... If you take the carpet up, open the hatch and pour a bottle of water over the body above the light you should be able to see if any is entering. If the light seal is gone there will often be water inside the lenses as well.

Thanks Gryphon I will examine and give it a try. I had this problem on a Triumph Spitfire (ugh) about 46 years ago and used Vaseline to stop the rain!

Gryphon, As you suggested I poured water over the light cluster and it ran into the car - thanks for the pointer.

Great that you've found the leak, now you have the fun of re sealing the light cluster!

After a couple of attempts with gasket sealant (definitely the wrong stuff to use) I found that butyl panel sealant did a very good job. I bought 9mm square section stuff which was too big and needed some shaping by hand to allow the light to sit in place on the body. I'd recommend something a little slimmer. I believe another forum member Rav had some 6mm stuff but needed to double it up in places to get a seal... Also, don't use the fittings (studs with 10mm nuts) to pull the housing to the body against the sealant as they shear!

Something along these lines should do, can't say i've any experience with this 6x8mm one though... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BOLT-ON-PANEL ... 2522800999

People have also had success with cutting out neoprene gaskets.

When I did mine I found it easiest to stick the sealant to the body, mold it with fingers where I thought it needed it, then push the light into place... Couple of not great pictures:

I have quite a lot of the Porsche butyl light sealant strip. PM me with your address and I'll happily post you some to do both lights.

Oli,
If you could send some sealant, please include your address so I can reimburse you, just let me know how much.
Thanks, Mike Putt

Mike,

Sure - I'll put some in the post to you. It won't be until Tuesday though; sorry about the delay. (The reason for the delay is that I'm finally off to the Transaxle Exhibition in Stuttgart - yay! :D )

I have been to the Porsche museum in Stuttgart, interesting but they didn't have a 944 on display - would they buy mine? The factory was not open that weekend due to a long w/end break, but you need to book in advance if you're considering it.
