Hi all

I have a small oil leak that I need to identify.

I think it is coming from the area underneath where the oil filter screws in, the area beneath it where the oil pressure sender can be found is glazed in oil.

At first I thought it could be from the oil loss when removing the oil filter, this year I was meticulous against any oil escaping during this time.

There is a gasket that I believe can be the cause of this on I believe which is the oil heat exchanger gasket however.

I thought the 944 s2 had no oil /water heat exchanger fitted at this position.(I think the oil cooler is separate on an s2)
Am I right about this or does the s2 still utilise some of the gasket/s to be found In this kit.

Finally if it is this gasket set that I will require, will I require the alignment tool and can the job be done without removing the engine?

Any help would be appreciated

Thank you

Mark

It probably is that gasket, mine was leaking on the 968, possible to do with the engine in the hole.

Need to remove the pas pump the arb bracket, and have arms like rubber man from the fantastic four, you will need the gasket set, the O rings for the neck in the block, and the O rings for the oil cooler pipes, and the alignment tool, also replace the seals on the OPRV

There have been a few with issues of the housing being slightly distorted, this can be solved with a surface plate and a bit of fettling to get it flat again

Hope that helps

Thanks Waylander I was looking at wpo on eBay 53 euros gasket set and alignment tool, is that a good deal?

Any part numbers would be great for the correct kit and also OPRV seals.

Once again thank you

My kit was £32 came from Frazer part I think

I can find some more numbers for you

What engine type do you have be in your service book or boot sticker, you might find someone on here to lend you a tool,

When you replace the housing you should be able to remove the tool from the housing using your fingers only, with the bolts tightened fully

Get the housing crooked, and you will get too much oil pressure and it will blow the oil filter off or jam and leave you with very low pressure

It's one of those little things that has to be right

Hi all thanks for the replies all, I have bought the seal kit to cure this leak.

I have a few questions:

1. My car is an s2 do I need to drain the coolant ( not sure there is a heat exchanger in this area on an s2)

2. I will need to replace the OPRV O seals, are these in the kit? And if not any part numbers please.

3. I think I might need to buy/rent/ borrow an alignment tool can anyone help with this worth a few beers for a loan etc.

4. Any guides or help advice for an s2 inparticularly.

Thank you

Mark

All the seals, gaskets O rings should be in the kit. It would be worth draining the coolant fluid and also engine oil, as you may have a fluid transference, however slight, with the leaking gasket diagnosed. You are going to have to remove the oil filter anyway, so an appropriate time.

There is a very good YouTube video on this, albeit an earlier 944 model (ie water/oil cooler), not an S2 but the principal is the same. You are still going to need that alignment tool however. It is not an easy job and if you have any doubts, I would have it done by a decent Porsche fundie mechanic...
