Post subject:  My 944 and I

Hi there! I am new to this forum and I have a couple of questions to ask if anyone could help me. I own (from new), a beautiful 1984 944. She is still in very good condition with a new engine in 2005. The thing is, I am ready to sell her, but not for parts, I want her to go to a loving home. Is this too much to ask for? I want to buy my dream car, a yellow Boxster S. So my questions are these: Am I crazy to sell my 944 for a Boxster? and secondly, is there a market for my LHD 944? I brought her over to the UK from Canada and I have garaged her every winter and serviced her regularly. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Tiny Dancer and welcome to the forum.
I would keep the 944 over a Boxster personally, but then as a 968 owner I am probably a little biased and Boxster owners may tell you something different!

I agree with Simon, also an early LHD 944, is not worth a lot of money (£1000) if your very lucky, what did flipatons 944 sell for?

I think that Flipatron's car went for just under £1000 and that was RHD.
Keep it, and negotiate a discount off the Boxster for no part-ex (assuming it is with a Dealer).

Here's a left hooker imported from the states.

Might give you an idea of the value :|

I agree with the others, a LHD car no matter how good will struggle to sell for anything sensible in A. This market & B. leading up to Xmas. It's not a time for people to buy toys simply!
Keep it & buy a Boxster so you become a 2 Porsche family

Edited to say love the avatar!

i also agree with above posts, if you can afford to keep both cars do so, otherwise you will virtually give the '44 away, hello and welcome to the forum by the way

No point to give the '44 away. Keep it! LHD not popular. Early '44s worth under a grand now. It will probalby out live the boxster anyway. Just much more over engineered. The new engine may be worth more than the car. Keep it. It's a no brainer.

Thank you all for your advice and comments. So sad that my SweetPea has so little cash value as she is invaluable to me!! After all I have owned and loved her for 24 years. I always vowed I would sell her the day I woke up and didn't care if I drove her. That day has still not dawned. I am just so tempted by the little Boxster I have found on a dealer's forecourt..it is fully loaded with all the "modern" extras that the 944 is just too old to have had. Sadly I cannot house (or justify) owning two sports cars along with my Rav 4. What to do, what to do, what to do? :(

boxster you need to buy in pairs (one for each foot) '44 will outlast out live and out class a boxster any day and it has more charecter in the puff of smoke it just gave out or bit of rust it just lost than a whole fleet of boxsters will ever have ;)

Best place to advertise a LHD 944 is on a European website
you'd still be lucky to get more than £2k though

Nothing wrong with Boxsters at all, ok they are not as well built as cars 15 years ago but that's the same with BMW, Merc etc.

As you said the 944 is now very dated and you'll love the boxster

Nothing wrong with mine - had it 2 1/2 years, and it's so far cost me two front tyres and a bob or two to Alistair Darling :D

 well, yes, I understand the "bin the Rav" ! it's my rainy day runner and something to put my Old English Sheepdog in! However, she does look seriously funny in the Porsche as she has to sit in the front seat of course and as it is a LHD, people that pass us do a double take because it looks like she is driving. Sometimes I take her for drives just for the laughs it gives me!
