Good luck with wiring - im trying to find out where my diagram I drew to help me is, I fearon my old pc. In the meantime, I think the green wires are the switched live, as per this blog:

Ok, so the general consensus is stop looking for the actual one and just find a new one to splice into another wire? Any suggestions to where I should use? The sunroof wire going to the switch?

If you're looking for ignition switched then come off the back of the ignition switch.

I have decided to properly sort my stereo in my 1989 2.7 and have found an absolute mess behind the stereo that came with the car. It appears I have a brown (earth) Red (perm live) Red with white stripe (2nd perm live?!??) No switched live at all. Blue (no idea) Grey (no idea) I have now found another wire Brown with black stripe (another permanent live) Which was cut right back but still connected at the other end.

The 2 red wires were connected to each other and fed to the perm and switched live on stereo so always on. The blue and grey wires are connected to each other and not connected to anything.

I also have another wire coming from the aerial which i'm assuming is the powered aerial amp and I believe that should go to the same connector as an amp would need?

I've searched google for ages and cannot get a definitive answer to what goes where.

I have bought an autoleads PC3-08 to make the wiring look decent and to sort the switched live as the harness that was in there didn't have anything going into that connection. I can pretty much understand why now I can't find a switched live.

Please help. I'm pulling my hair out.

Its a while since I looked at it but I'm sure the grey wire is a switched live.

Another problem is the front door speaker wires seem to be disconnected somewhere between the stereo point and the doors, is there a plug in them anywhere?

I have decided to properly sort my stereo in my 1989 2.7 and have found an absolute mess behind the stereo that came with the car. I'm starting to think the loom has been cut back and rewired with different colours. If I could find a switched live then at least I can correctly wire it.

from memory in my 924, I think I traced the switched live back to the sunroof relay, which was knackered and was too expensive to replace. Can't remember where i took the switched live from instead.

Many moons ago I did it for a living! John Kleis Car Audio in Reading for the TV guys! Personally I'd get a fresh local earth on a body screw rather than using the loom. Bell it all through using a multimeter. One major point on later 944s the aerial plug has a wire (black from memory) by the side which requires connecting to a switched ignition feed or the electric aerial out in order to power the aerial amp under the dash. Failure to do this will result in rubbish radio reception. When doing it for a living we just bought all the wires out to a 12Way or how ever many you need chocolate block. If you're using an ISO radio then connect this to t'other side.

I've also found out today that my sunroof won't release on position 1 when it was working fine before I took the stereo out. Wonder what I've messed up there? Or is it a coincidence?

My speakers are all connected to the wires, unfortunately the speakers have all had it except one. The grey and blue wires are for the illumination dimming of the original stereo and will switch on when the lights are turned on. Not ideal if you don't want to run your lights during the day.

My speakers have all had it except one. Any suggestions on a good speaker to fit without modification to be used with a pioneer 4x50w head unit?

I have jbl gto6426e s in the front, not got to the rears yet.....
