Would anyone be interested in coming on a weekend driving tour in Wales Having had a great trip away with members of the Thames Valley Region, some friends with 924s and 968s suggested they'd like to do the trip. So this time it will be Transaxles only. I already have routes (which may be slightly modified), a fantastic hotel and tour radios The routes are all waypointed and ready to be installed into Garmin and many TomTom's. It will be a three day trip starting on a Friday, with the routes heading through the cotswolds and across to our destination in Mid Wales. Roughly 4 hours driving, plus a stop for lunch. Saturday is full on with around 5 hours of driving, plus stops. Sunday is around 3 hours of driving before lunch, then all head home. Lunch stop will likely be around Ross on Wye The hotel is the Metropole and it has full spa facilites, so any other halves that want to come along are welcome to spend the Saturday back at the hotel if they don't enjoy being a passenger (this option was taken by a few last trip and very much enjoyed) The routes take in some fantastic fast A and B roads including different passes across the Beacons. There are also some much narrower mountain passes, which are tight and twisty and amazing fun. Ok, so for the costs Dinner Bed and Breakfast at £316 per room based on 2 nights for 2 adults (£79 per adult per night), evening meal is 3 course menu (choice of 4 starters, 4 main courses, 4 desserts, tea/coffee). If single occupancy rooms required rate at £208 for 2 nights. The rooms are fantastic, none of this Travelodge stuff There are still a few spaces left but there is a limit, |

We are on an organised trip which starts at the Anglesey race track, then we ferry toDublin, stay overnight and go west across to the coast, then all round the coast going south, east across the bottom and north back to Dublin. All in all about a week. A couple of hours on the race track near Dublin and then over the water and home. I was hoping we could come on the Welsh trip, but the two events overlap. regards David |

I have to make my final decision on which car to take tonight. The S2 is the sensible option. Much, much, much more comfortable and more power for overtaking... but the 2.7 would be amazing around those twisty roads; I just don't know if I could stand 3 days of driving in it! |

Well, as with most trips there are always a few things that don't go quite to plan. Originally we had 6 booked on the trip with a 7th booking a few days before, sadly Mick cancelled due to health as did one of the others (a couple) and Trevor (924 2.0) had changed from a couple to a single. Leaving my other half as the only woman. So from 7 cars we were down to 5 but that's not a problem, 5 people is a nice number to manage. 4 of us met up at Oxford services around 10am. A 968CS Richard, 944S2 GlennS, my 924/68 and Andrew's 924S a really nice cross section of the transaxle tree and due to meet up with Trevor and his 2.0 in 3 hrs. A fabulous drive to our lunch stop through Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds. We had a nice lunch, met Trevor and then headed off. Sadly Trevor blew a spark plug out of his block. Nice spot to pick in the middle of a 5 mile tailback on local A roads. Two of us were already past Trevor so we headed on to do some shopping (more later) and two stayed with Trev for a while while he sorted out Breakdown. So now the Famous 5 are down to the Fantastic 4. I am now in Aberystwith where I have a pre planned shopping trip and after a test drive I now have another Boxster ![]() ![]() The 968 and 924S are now following my pre planned satnav waypointed routes to our destination hotel (about 3 hours of fab B roads) . The rest of us also make our way to the hotel. About 2 hours later than planned we arrive at the excellent Metropole hotel in Llandrindod Wells. and enjoy a well deserved cool beer (think Ice Cold in Alex) We had our own allocated parking area that was coned off for us on arrival, a shame that Richard parked the wrong way round |
