Has anyone done it? If so were and how much was it. Also do you think I should I do it?
I think the 968 rear end is so nice and with the 944 front I think the car would look so much better. I would love to know anyones thoughts on this matter.
Scott.

There was a yellow "944 ClubSport" knocking around a couple of years back with it done.

I tend to agree that the 968 rear is better looking than the 944 (though the rest of the 968 is less attractive to my eye), but it would be masses of work, cost a fair bit (even if you do the work yourself) and leave you with a car worth less than the standard 944 it was based on.

That's not a reason not to do it, though it's the combination of reasons that stopped me from doing it, possibly with the adddition it's purely aesthetic and I try only to made modifications that have a purpose beyond looks. Again I'm not saying it's wrong to do so, just that's my personal "rule".

Deutsch Nine offer a clip-on conversion. You dont have to cut the rear quarters away, but the price is strong and genuine 968 lamps cost a fortune (and breakers arent giving them away any longer either).

I'd like to do that to my cab. but as a stop-gap improvement I'm going to remove the rubber strip from the back bumper. I think that really dates the car.

you need to fill the holes after you take it off and do something with the hole for the toe eye (fill it or make a cap) then re-spray it. Im saving up for a compressor and a spray gun because im sick of using crappy aerosols to spray.

They're 18s of an early 996. they tend to cause the care to tramline a bit but 968 castor mounts tend to reduce that.
They do look the business and take years off the car.

I did this to a 1987 944 Lux a few years ago. A company called Club Autosport in Birmingham did it for me. I had quite a bit of work done at the time and if I remember correctly I ended up spending about £6000 on the car. I eventually sold the car for £6500 and bought an S2. I still think fondly of the car and the looks it used to get but unfortunately the power from the engine just didnt live up to the image.
Cheers,
Paul.

That looks great. You should have put a super charger on it! My lux looks nothing speical. But I spent the money on the engine. Now it eats the turbo deasels that used to embaress it.

Interesting idea. It all comes down to that preference thing again. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that. I'm with Fen on this one about the bit of the 968 body being less attractive then the 944. However, whats not to like about the 944 rump. I think it's well sexy (I need to get out more obviously!)

I've seen the conversion on the link but I don't think it suits the 944. One could argue to buy a 968 but then we're back to the 968 body issue. I would only do the conversion if I was able to refit the old rear end if I was selling the car (god forbid) at a later date. What one person likes may not appeal to another person.

I'll be watching with interest to see how you're conversion goes if you decide to ahead with it.

Here's a few pics of the Yellow 'Club Sport' mentioned earlier. It lives in Blackpool and was for sale a year or so ago.
