Post subject: | Battery Size for 1986 model 944 (in boot) |
Having been working through various checks on my 944 I've found that the battery seems to be too small for the space in the boot so it can't be secured with the metal clip. The info on the top says PLA 063. I'm not sure when it was fitted but it does sound like the car struggles a little initially when starting. Anyway I want to get one that can be properly secured in the battery tray so are there any recommendations for what to go for? What size (dimensions and capacity) is the battery meant to be on an oval dash 944? Thanks Andy ![]() |

063 is way too small. Too small on the box size to fit the clamp and too small in capacity for decent cranking. You want an 096TE (in Exide language) which will fit the clamp and sit below the carpet and give you 700 CCA to turn her over. |

Thanks for that. I've looked at the difference in specs and it would certainly seem to explain why the car doesn't turn over and start immediately. The 96T batteries look to be 278mm vs existing one being around 200mm long so the increased size would fit the clamps and stop it moving. Just a bit puzzled why anyone used the 063, unless they were trying to reduce weight perhaps. |
