So, I'm out looking at 924, 944 and Boxster options as a new acquisition that I can enjoy over the the summer and keep as a longer term toy.

Went out to see a Series 1 square dash 944 today which is over priced at £3995 but is mechanically sound.

MoT runs for 12 months (almost) with an advisory on slight play in a rear wheel bearing. Also a perished tyre which has been changed. Prev MoT's show nothing other than insecure battery which again has been done. Dash only has a couple pf minor cricks in it - I've seen some that are much much worse than this! Body work has stone chips, dings around sit along with some surface rust on the lower lip of the front wing. Sills look strong on the outside but are starting to go at the front. These are pics from the underside of the car and also inside the rear quarter via the access panel at the rear of the doors...

Probably the worst of it is here on the offside:

I suspect I'd need to get this around the 3k mark for it to be worthwhile but thoughts are welcome.....

Cheers Dave, they do have a certain charm :) Interior is Porsch Script and in really good condition. On top of that I'm happy to turn my hand to any new tasks that come up. My only real concern on this one is the sills which at £1k per side could be an issue....

Can you not get a good scrapper with sills or do you just have to get new ones?

Hi :)

With sills and the other rust that will be equally bad...that for me would be around £500 worth if i wanted a LOT of work on a long time project....

Which I would guess is why the owner is selling and not fixing :(

All the best Brett :)

It's certainly something to look at Dave... but even scrappers could have problems... I think around half of of the cost is workmanship and labour so the cost of dismantling a scrapper could outweigh the gains....

There's a Facebook thread of some sills being replaced - it's an art form! I'll ask a man that knows at our Tipec meet this week... :)

I agree Brett, you'd think he'd get the work done. It's being sold by a motorbike dealer who took it in as a part ex and he now just wants rid - I'm not sure he's got his sums right on it though...

It could be that a MY2003/4 Boxster is best for now and will leave me budget for a better FE going forward :)

I wouldn't pay 4 grand for one imminently in need of sill replacement, even though I am perfectly capable of doing it myself. The hours and cost required to do a good quality long lasting repair are huge.

...and here she is - my new acquisition :)

She's a 1982 2.0 NA with just over 100k on the clock, originally white but nicely decorated and a few performance tweaks...

I picked her up from Northampton last night but all didn't quite go to plan.... The alternator belt took a hike in lane 2 of the M1 just before J25 and the coolant couldn't live without belt so it left its mark on the cats eyes as well!

Sometimes shit happens and rubber perishes so other than only getting home at 4:30 this morning on the back of 12 tonnes of finest flatbed I'm still a happy bunny!

£4 belt on this afternoon, coolant in and bled and she's singing albeit running quite hot by feel although the temp gauge reads dead centre... Weaver Wander will test her a bit further tomorrow...
