Having wanted a red 944 since schoolboy days I've finally managed to take the plunge! I was watching one on Ebay needing restoration but the price went a bit crazy for the work I think it needed. I found a 1986 C reg 2.5 locally that has an incredible history file and is in pretty good condition. I'm under no illusions that some work will need doing but I think £3k for a running car is a safer bet than £1700 for one that's blown head gasket and not run for over 10 years.

Picking it up at the weekend so I'll post back once I've actually got it

Andy

Welcome Andy :)

Looking forward to seeing the pics.

I gather your other car is the 996?

I did have a 996 but unfortunately not at the moment. Can't wait till Sunday when I can get behind the wheel!

It'll be different to the 996 but great all the same :)

All the best for Sunday!

Enjoy :)

Collected the car yesterday and great drive back on some country lanes. I'm getting the job list together but so far need to replace boot lock on one side and clean resistor for the heater fan which was only working on setting 4. The resistor was cleaned last night so I'm hoping that will fix the fan. Just waiting for OPC to come back with part and price for the boot lock, I did think about second hand but decided it's probably better to get new so it's then sorted.

It will need the sills doing at some point but they're ok for the moment. Next job is to get driver's seat repaired as that's pretty worn, it's a shame as the passenger side is mint - keep thinking I need to look for ones from the continent that might be the other way round to get a perfect right hand passenger seat to swap. At the moment I'm undecided whether to repair or just buy replacement seats if I can spot them on Ebay.

And the best bit so far is the insurance, £99 on classic policy - there are some advantages in getting older!

   Very jealous there. I couldn't get below £500 and they'll not let me add anything non-stock.

Beautiful car though. I hope it has zero nasty surprises in store for you! I'd be interested to hear how you get on with the drivers seat - mine's on my list, but quite a way down it at the moment.

IIRC, you can swap the backrest from a passenger seat straight onto a drivers' seat if that helps.

Could you put the whole passenger seat on drivers side or is it one sided ?

I'd assumed I'd need to remove the seat from the frame so controls etc were in right place but it would certainly be easier to just swap sides.

First successful "fix" tonight. Cleaning the fan resistor and refitting now means I have a blower working on all settings, not just 4! Ordered the part for the tailgate from OPC today, so hopefully that will arrive before weekend and I can get lock sorted out.
