Post subject:  Value of a matching set of lock barrels + keys

Hi all,

I kicked myself for not checking before buying it, but my 944 needs a different key for both the boot and the passengers door. The passengers door handle has been replaced with an earlier 'insert' type, and I presume the PO didn't realise you could switch out the lock barrels (or the full door was replaced... it's had a respray since so hard to tell!). I have no idea why the boot is different as there is no evidence of crash damage at all...

Anyway - I've been looking out for a full set of lock barrels, ignition assembly and keys in order to remedy this. Any ideas on how much I should be paying for them? So far quotes are just under £100...

Thanks :)

Just recode the existing ones to fit the ignition key.

I wasn't aware that was possible... I imagine that would involve trading the pins out and replacing them with ones cut to length for the ignition key. I've not found anything about it on Google and it sounds more than a little fiddly! I'm happy to be proved wrong though :)

Edit: May have proved myself wrong, need to read up on this http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticle ... _rekey.htm

Thanks for putting me onto it.

I did it to the boot lock over the weekend, it worked ok although not prefect - I needed some more lock pins (or could have filed down my existing ones...).
I put the write-up here: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=20854&p=151824#p151824
