Mt 944 is in the paint shop for a full respray after my sill repair on both sides. Talking to the guy doing it he recommends a smooth finish over all the sills to the base, and not replacing the stone chip. Instead go for some custom plastic clear guards for the bottom, similar to those on the arches ect? I must admit this would make the car look more modern. What do people think? |

I'd always have my car done as the factory intended but it's your car and you need to decide what you prefer. |

Its a personal preference. Personally i dont like the factory stone chip, but some protection down there is good. |

as stated it's a personal decision but for me, it has to be factory, that goes for the entire exterior of the car. Porsche created more than just a high-performance car in the 944, they created a true beauty that IMHO is unmatched. Good looks and great safe action, what more could a driver ask for? Pete |

Factory for me, I like the stone chip finish on the sills plus it's functional. Given their placement the sills take some flack so Porsche were wise to apply the stone chip. Why spend all that money on repairs just for them to be chipped to hell in a few months or years time... |

Or you could have just polished paint then cover them with clear helicopter tape? |

Just search on eBay It's thick clear high performance sticky tape good for protecting fog lights and other things that suffer stone impacts |

Helicopter tape every time - besides, that stone chip paint can conceal a multitude of problems... |

Cheers guys. I think I'm going to go with the clear tape over the sills. I've spent ages getting it perfectly smooth, and with the new outer panel the high finish should look great. Now just to find some tape to cover it. I'll post some pics once I've done it. Mark |
