Evening all

I fitted a refurb alternator a few months back. It seems a bit flaky at times. 95% of the time is perfect and then occasionally it goes a bit mad and the voltmeter seems to lift with revs up to about a max of 15 volts. I trust the voltmeter as you can feel the blower surge, lights get a bit brighter etc. I assume this will be the voltage regulator?

And is the voltage regulator the same unit with the 2 prongs, brushes maybe, that is held on with 2 screws at the back of the alt? If so I have a brand new one.

Lastly is it possible to change that part on a turbo with the alt in situ? From underneath obviously!?

Thanks in advance

Stuart

Never tried on a turbo, but I would imagine it's going to be no fun at all

Granada regulator is exactly the same and a shed load cheaper that a genuine one

Can't be any less fun than removing the alternator. I would rather pish thistles than have to do that again!!

Well this indeed was a nightmare. Undertrays and drive belt off. Strip off airbox, MAF, hard boost pipe and J boot. Then completely disconnect alternator so you can turn it round a bit to gain access to the shroud and finally the 2 screws that hold the regulator on! Add in an hour break for a biblical storm and almost 4 hours of my bank holiday Monday were accounted for! The resistor had become unsoldered on the reg which was infuriating as it was a fully refurbed alt only a few months old. Replaced reg with new Meyle item and all is well.

I am now off to send an angry e-mail to the refurber!

Worth checking the battery earth strap as well. A common fault on 944s.

Did you put the cooling surround back on? I left mine off. Wasn't quite as bad for me. I'm sure I went in from above
