I have a slight leak from my head cover, so looking to change the gaskets. My head cover could look better and I thought about refurbishing. The colour is very odd like a creamy colour, is that normal? For originality I would still like keep it the colour it left Stuttgart. Anyone know what it is ? Also are there any tips on replacing the gaskets.
Cheers

Normal colour for a S2

A little tip, just a tiny amount of RTV sealant in each corner will help stop weeping on the cam box cover

Mine also looked terrible, but I ended up living with it as most places ran a mile, once I told them it contained magnesium. Happy to be corrected by anyone who knows different on that. The gasket is pretty cheap to replace. Might be a good time to inspect the chain tensioner while it's off and all that that entails.

Cheers,
Bryan

Thanks for the replies chaps. Also is anyone using a wind deflector or can recommend one? ( on their cab)

My cam cover is that colour too, its grim! I fancy going black when I finally get it done, the car is whit and I kinda like the white/black contrast.

Red always looks good, when you paint the cover your expansion tank will look awful. :)

I did this with mine, (along with the belt cover) it's almost the original colour as I wanted the same as you, for it to be as original as possible but this is a slightly nicer shade of cream, the original colour almost looks grey in comparison. I highlighted the letters in orange as it's a bit of a theme on the car.

Looks good. On a side note what cone filter are you using?

I'm not sure what it is, it's one I've had in a box for years?

The car came with a crappy cone filter that had "had it" and I had this one knocking about so I fitted it. I'm actually after a complete original Ventiler airbox, brackets and pipework.

They were finished in a single coat paint (as opposed to base coat and lacquer), which was silver when new and has slowly faded to a creamy colour over the years.

Its unusual because that sort of paint usually fades to grey...

Strip paint off the old. Three coats of Made in the USA VHT crinkle bake finish..

Replace main gasket AND the four plug seals - a very thin pencil smear of high temp RTV on the flat side. Squash down cover in an even sequence. Tighten to a 'nitch' - they are a seated bolt...

Out of interest why would they run a mile with magnesium?
