Afternoon all

Meant to share this a while back but have been busy with baby number 2 arriving and with today being my first day back at work I remembered to share this with you all!

Glasgow OPC recently acquired classic dealership status, one of only 4 in the UK and 31 in Europe so far. To celebrate this they had a launch at the dealership with guest speakers including Derek Bell who brought along his 924 CGTS. I was fortunately asked if my car could be borrowed to go on display (thanks to Colin for the tip off from PCGB forum). I dropped it off in a disgusting state and was given the keys to a brand new Cayenne to run about in for a couple of days. I must say I nearly fell over when I saw how they had got my car polished up to go on display. I must clean it more often lol............

Anyway they had 4 944T cabrios (common as muck lol), 2 944T coupes, a 924 turbo and Bell's 924 CGTS amongst other wonderful exhibits. Here are a few pics from the event:

We have all seen this before but was awesome in the flesh.

Somebodies nice K plate 944T cab.

An OPC restored 924T.

Another 944T cab!

And finally my car!

Never got a photo of the other 944T coupe which Glasgow OPC are nearly finished restoring or the mint early 911T that Glasgow completed restoring last year. Both are lovely.

Stuart

Great pics!

Where are the other OPCs that have classic status? What does that mean for us classic Porsche owners?

Most of the OPC's will look after all the classics, ask for a quote they will generally price match.

I'm not sure of the others, other 3 UK ones in England. Although classic parts can be obtained from any OPC to obtain classic status you must have parts guys who are clued up with the classic range and show a passion for keeping older Pork on the road. There are other factors too and classic dealerships will most likely take on resto projects and such like. Anyway the head guy from Germany was over and for him it's massive and he went into great detail about current and future part availability and the lengths they go to to make sure parts are available and affordable. Safe to say 944 parts will be made available for many many years to come.

I believe around 80% of all Porsche's made are still on the road. Doubt many other marques could match that!

Agree with Sean, I take my 944 to Silverstone Porsche as they will give an almost identical hourly rate to indies, and 15% off parts.
They have a real interest in the classics and are one of the biggest in the UK (presume they will get that classic status stamp soon)
They do fixed price servicing on the 996 too, so much more affordable.
As stated, if you ask they seem keen to oblige nowadays

Good story Stuart but I'm a little dubious about the availability of parts, to be honest. Last part I enquired about in an OPC was a PAS pipe, which I asked about in early autumn last year. Sean in East London OPC did as much searching as he could and said he could get me a price sometime after Christmas and availability would be 'a few months' from that point. Needless to say my local Pirtek were given the business of making me a new pipe and all was well, but I've noticed a significant drying-up of a number of parts in OPC's of late, as have others on the forums.

(I don't believe that 80% of all Porsches made are on the roads either, come to mention it - I seriously doubt it's 40%, but that's by-the-by!)

It sounds like a good event none the less and your car looks very good indeed!

Oli.

That was a really good night. Wasn’t sure what to expect, but Derek Bell gave some great chat. Really entertaining.

Porsche Classic partner status means:
  • A ‘Porsche Classic’ flag outside the dealership
  • A ‘Classic Corner’ in the showroom
  • Parts & service staff are specifically qualified (by Porsche) in dealing with classic models
  • The workshop will have a full set of any specialist tools required for classic models

So that’s it really. The whole programme is really more about Porsche committing to producing large numbers of parts for older models on an ongoing basis.

(Porsche’s official line is that ‘more than 70%’ of cars built are still on the road, by the way.)

Great photos Stuart!!!

I've been down to the Leeds dealership a couple of times to see the 1980's LeMan campaigning 924 GTP being stripped and re built. The guys down here are fantastic and let me wander around the place taking as many photos as I like...

How the hell do I download photos onto this site...???!!! :?
Cheers

A couple of people on Pistonheads posted that Porsche were making 968 blocks available again, I asked Cambridge OPC to get me a price but despite chasing them up a few times nothing ever came of it.
