I went on a bit of a mission to get the cabin heating working again, it had leaked at some point in the past and had been bypassed in the engine bay(before my ownership). Living in Scotland the heater is required even in summer! Naturally I assumed the heater core had failed so set about pulling the dash and center console only to discover that the heater core was fine and the culprit had been an O ring on the inlet pipe grrrrrrr.......So new pipe and hose and O rings ordered and fitted.

In the meantime while the dash was out I decided to have a go at repairing it and freshening it up. It had one large crack in the middle and around the windscreen vents the vinyl had come unstuck and cracked as well. I scalpel-ed out the lifted vinyl and re-glued it, and sanded back the large crack and filled it with a lightweight none shrinking and slightly flexible filler. I then spayed the whole dash with black vinyl paint, several coats required. Very pleased with the outcome.

While the binnacle was out I replaced the broken cog in the speedo so should now have working trip and odometer.

Next was the HVAC unit and vent pipework. All the foam had disintegrated and it was filthy, so it got a good clean up and some fresh foam and all the mechanisms got some lube. Following this I set about tidying up the wiring, which was a mess!

Having fitted the nicely freshen up dash it highlighted just how bad the rest of the interior was. Whilst I was contemplating this and what to do about it, a complete and very good condition leather, big bolster interior came available......I had to have it.....and am pleased to say I got it, not cheap but definitely worth it. So far I have removed and replaced the seats and the drivers foot well carpet, rear quarter panel cards, rear headlining trim panel and front seat belts. Already a massive difference to the interior.

Once I get some new speakers and speaker covers I will replace the doorcards with the fantastic set I got. Then I have some minor modifications to make in order to fit the (as if from the factory) split rear seat uppers to my older model car.
