If you are doing a simple change and you only have blue coolant in it I'd go with Glytasyn G48 and that only ; it's the only IAT antifreeze I have seen recently that keeps the engine rust free if you use the car alot. The biggest problem is that the one thing that made IAT good (Phosphate) does not work so well in a hard water area - it calcifies with obvious results). If you are doing a full flush then I'd consider something like the Porsche coolant or a half decent OAT antifreeze like Glytasyn G30. Evans does not remove all of the pressure but it does remove most of it. While it does put less strain on old hoses I'd still replace tired or swollen items regardless, even if the bill does come to around £60-70 on the hoses. 50/50 is the right mix. As for tips, before firing it up I would top the tank up near the very top of the filler neck, and put a bike pump onto an cut inner tube with one end sealed up, and then pressurise the coolant system to about 15-20PSi in order to bleed the air effectively out of the bleed screw. |

I get the engine warm so the thermostat is open, then pull the bottom hose. Yes it will be warm coolant so be careful! Once its cooled down I undo the bleed nipple and refill. If you have a length of 8mm clear pipe run in from the bleed nipple into the header tank. Just let the engine run till no more bubbles in the pipe. Done it twice on my S now and its worked perfect both times. |

Other way is to get some circlip pliers and renew the thermostat and probably get a new one. I'd personally only fit either a Porsche or a BEHR item and they are not massively pricey either. |
