Is there anyway of adjusting the handbrake from inside the car? Perhaps shortening the cable by the handle?

Yes, push the seat forward and lift the carpet at the rear of the lever. Undo the locknut and the turn the adjusting nut whichever way you need to do to get the cable the correct length in order for that lever to set the handbrake after 3 or 4 clicks. Ideally this should be done after the shoes have been adjusted correctly.

Great cheers.
I just adjusted the handbrake shoes today and followed the handbooks instructions but I want it a bit tighter given my drive as a slope on it.

Crack on then!!

When I did mine the adjusting nut was tight so needed some long nose pliers to hold the cable to stop it spinning. I think its a 10mm nut and its quite fiddly to get too, I used a couple of extension bars so the ratchet was in front of the seat and easy to turn
