I am replacing the gasket and seals on the oil cooler housing. Naturally i have had to remove the oprv, oil pressure sender and the drain plug that sits next to it. I had an oil leak from this area so assume One of these was the offending item.

Before i start reinstalling i need to check something. Each of the oprv, oil pressure sender and drain plug have some kind of hard red sealant applied to them, is this supposed to be there? If so what type of sealant is recommended? Reason i ask is that in all the pics i have seen online the sealant is not there and the is no mention of it in the workshop manual or Clarks Garage guide.

I want to make sure i get this right for reassembly as i really dont want to repeat this job anytime soon!

If I remember correctly the original red gaskets and seals are all replaced with green gaskets. I don't think you need any other sealant. All the relevant bits are supplied in the gasket kits. It is important that you use the alignment tool on the OPRV to prevent it sticking open or shut. It's a satisfying job to complete.

Hope that helps

Matt

Thanks for the input.

One further question. I want to double check the torque setting for the housing bolts, there is no reference for them in the Workshop Manual, Clarks Garage says 20Nm but this seems too light.
