Hi Folks - A bit of a general question - did the 944/968 bonnets come with the two insulation panels as a standard fitment? I replaced one of mine (left hand side over the exhaust manifold), as it had completely perished. Some pics show open bonnets with non of the panels fitted - just curious... Dave CT |

Hi Dave.. iirc the under bonnet insulation was an early car item up to 86-87 maybe 89, for later models it was dropped....I'm sure someone will correct me if I have this wrong...I took mine off, firstly as it was crumbling away and secondly, as my car is a turbo in my mind it's far better to let the heat escape than trap it in the engine bay were things are hot enough as it is....well anyway that's my way of looking at it.... Thanks Pete - Mine is a 1990 S2 and has the insulation pads. Without them I am sure the outer paint would be cooked! Having said that, a mate has an '89 Cab with no pads fitted. Strange but true... Dave S2 CT |

I have an 86 with insulation (crumbling) and a 90 S2 without - the paint still looks OK to me. |

Missing from 88 turbo up, would expect the heat to be more off an issue here |

The parts catalogue doesn't list them for model year '89 onwards. Neither my '89 944 2.7 nor my '90 944 S2 has ever had them fitted. |

Thanks for the replies - I ordered my replacement 'pad' from our OPC at a reasonable price. Not sure why some cars have them and other laters' don't?! Dave CT S2 |

Yep. My ’89 Turbo never had pads. Nothing but pristine clean paint from the factory on the underside of the bonnet. In wet weather, when stopped at traffic lights, you could see raindrops turn to steam as they hit the bonnet. |
