Guys,

What a are your current thoughts on prices for our 944's, are they increasing, are they still worth the investment?

You wont lose in depreciation but u wont gain enough to cover the running costs either.....

Just buy , drive , enjoy.

they are increasing and there's no sign yet of it slowing down..when i renew my insure in May I shall be doubling the agreed value as currently it's far below what PCGB value our cars at...

From what I've read or seen all but the n/a 2.5/2.7s are are going up significantly, mind you there are some rather ambitiously priced cars out there!

Indeed there are many that are just speculative prices and they don't get anywhere near the price.
Late turbos rose quite a bit last year, S2's went up a bit . Early cars are still too low for what they are, great value to buy though.

If PCGB haven't valued it as much as you'd like, there will be a good reason.

Same in america, when I went to visit my wife a couple of years ago there was a late turbo in red, black leather in arizona for $2k distance and time meant I did not go for it, the car got relisted a couple of times after that I remember seeing. Now they are flying up and that same cars an easy 10k+

Still kicking myself over that :(

Been offered a 924 I think it is. Its black, turbo with from memory some wider rear arches fitted (not 944 think its the bolt on archs i've seen a few have) been parked up a while guy wants $1.5k. I've not paid much attention to it on my trips as I want a 944 when the times right.

I think its hard to tell at this time of year, especially as there are very few for sale at the moment (and of course advertised price is speculative rather than indicative) but I get the feeling S2 prices are on the up. I guess it's because they are the natural 2nd fiddle to the turbo, which, to me, seem to be horrendously expensive in comparison for what isn't really that much different to the S2.
Of course you could argue that the turbo is easily tunable and therefore more desirable, but with all other appreciating classics (and other Porsches are certainly not exempt from this), it's the original, unmolested examples that gain the most value.

From my own perspective, I'm hoping that when I come to sell my S2 probably next year, that I can get back at least what I've paid, anything else will be the cherry on top :)

Also agree BUT, IMHO when I got my 944 2000 was the cheapest running / road worthy mot'd type. I looked at a few. Starting price for a reasonable 944 has got to be 3-4k now. I would guess they have gone up a grand a year? I'm talking 2.5 non turbo here. I would say that within a year or two it'll be 5000 for a reasonable one. Thats not just on 944 values but also the value of other cars especially classics. I live next to the classic car auction site in Leominster and 944's are still the bargain buy. I'm not the only one who thinks that and there are plenty of people looking with the thought of "buy now before they get out of reach". Isn't it the anniversay of the 924 then 944 as well? A small bit of publicity and folk will realise how underpriced they are. And before experts say a lux won't be six grand in 5 years, I remember folk saying that about escorts , minis and even tr6's.. (they'll never be worth much because (insert your reason). You can't even get a capri for 944 lux money and I know which I'd rather have..

I'd have another Capri 2.8i if I could sell my 944 and the money would buy me a decent one. But that's not an option as a decent 2.8i will set me back 7k upwards

I had a couple of 2.8i Capri's inc a turbo back in the 80's, great cars back then. The BMW E36 328i coupe I had a few years ago felt like a newer/better version of the Capri.

911virgin have listed an s2 for 16k. They are usually very reasonable with their prices so that's one that can be taken seriously as a judge of the market value and direction. I am pretty shocked actually, I like to have a look in and check now and again on the classifieds to keep and eye on the values, last time I looked was a few months ago but values look like they have moved on, there are a handful of s2's for 15k+ and (what I would regard as) high mileage turbos for 20k. Shocked, but pleasantly, not that I want to sell my s2 but we need to know what to insure them for.

now there's a name that I haven't heard for a while....it's good to see that they are still around, I bought my car from Henry 18 years ago for what was top money back then, mind you he had advertised it as the best example of a turbo in the UK well he would wouldn't he:)....I've never had reason to question his analysis, it will always need work but then what classic car that's used as a daily driver doesn't? .

Anyway good to see him doing well and at the same premises too.....:)
