Hi Guys,

I've owned my 944 2.7l for the past 4 years, undertaking a slow renovation.
Part of me always felt that the engine had been changed at some point, well to my disappointment tonight I finally found the engine number, which shows my engine to be a 1986 2.5 instead of a 2.7  should I be disappointed??
I feel a bit cheesed off!!

If you have enjoyed the car for four years, does it really make a big difference to the smile she puts on your face?

I can't see how it makes much real-world difference. The performance of the 2.5l and 2.7l engines never differed by much. All these years later, a "good" 2.5 will probably out-perform a "middling" 2.7. Condition will count for more than displacement.

In the "collector's car" world, people do care about matching chassis and engine numbers. Thankfully that hasn't percolated down to the 944 yet.

I'd be more than cheesed off I be bloody furious. I don't think it has anything to do with performance it's the fact that you've been cheated and lied to. I had this when buying a supposed 2.8 cologne v6 engine but when I turned up it had 2.3 cast on the side.

YES, a 2.7 engine is worth much more than a 2.5.

I've recently joined the 2.7 owners club and I'd be cheesed off if I'd found out it was a 2.5. Mind you maybe I should check. lol. I was told by one of the independents that a 2.7 could be more of a pain to own than a regular 2.5 due to the scarcity of some of the parts. He even went so far as to say that he wouldn't recommend a beginner owning one. In saying that this was about the time I was thinking of selling due to finding rampant sill rot internally... Maybe he wanted it cheap. :) Either way I'm glad I kept it

I'd be livid. Not from a performance point of view but from having bought something and then to find out its not what was advertised.

That said if you've enjoyed the car for the last 4 years I don't think the bad mood would last for long. Get out and drive it :D

2.5 is easier to work on and parts are readily available...my preferred engine.

Thanks guys, for your views.
When the engine was changed, would the clutch have been changed to a 2.5l spec?

Thanks
