My 1992 968 Tiptronic Coupe has a radio in it which is branded as a Porsche CR-2 radio although I have no doubt it is made by someone else.

Anyway it currently works well but only receives a few stations such as Radio 2. At the recent restoration show at the NEC I spoke to a guy who said he coud fix it, but I have just rung the number on the card he gave me and his wife said no they cannot because the radio is too new.

So can anybody recommend a repairer/updater of these radios that I can speak to please?

I really do not want to replace the radio -I like the originality.

David

I should have added that this car is an import from Japan. I have now contacted a radio specialist and he advised me that I need to buy a band or frequency expander, so the question now becomes, does anybody have any experience of those?

It's a pretty standard piece of kit. Many US and Jap imports of all makes had radios with digital tuners that only received a different range of FM frequencies, hence the need for the expander.

Quite a few available from eBay/Amazon for around £10.... just google FM Frequency expanders.

You have a Jimmy Young special! Expanders are a bodge at best. The Japanese use a very narrow FM spectrum for commercial radio and the expanders will allow you to receive our FM transmissions, but they wont be displayed correctly on the radio's screen and you probably wont be able to save them as presets.

I was told about not being able to "see" the station I am listening to but I was told I would be able to preset it.

So what is the solution, I would like to keep the appearance of the radio I have but I would also like to listen to more stations?

There used to be a company advertising in Classic & Sports Car that would put modern "innards" into your classic radio so you keep the original look but have a modern system

Can't remember what they were called sorry
