News to me. Cars later than yours only had a separate (Huntley & Palmer) immobiliser available.

Edited to add: for clarity, I am saying that a remote fob was not available to the best of my recollection.

I have the same stuck in page in my manual. I have alarm fitted as standard and just a key to operate it.

My 89 2.7 has an original alarm and an immobiliser and has 2 blippers. I couldn't get the alarm to work and the immobiliser (a usb type thing you stick in a slot by the steering wheel) started working intermittently so I disconnected the whole lot rather than get stranded if it decided not to work at all. I wouldn't want to trust a 27 year old alarm and immobilising system, but it would be nice to be able to lock and unlock the car using the blippers.

The 'USB thing' is the original H&P immobiliser, fitted by AFN/PCGB. Anything else will be dealer fit AFAIR.
