Just got my renewal from Adrian Flux. £260 from £170. Found that gocompare does classic quotes and thought I'd try it despite the annoying advert. Results are below, this is for 3 named drivers, (dad and partner) myself 44yo fully comp 6000 mileage limit one of the quotes includes all in recovery breakdown cover! will go for that one. less than half the v unhelpful flux... alex

Budget insurance is like budget tyres, alright until it pisses down. Well done for shopping around but read the policy carefully, market value, glass excess etc. |

I looked at the one stop policy and it looked ok. glass cover and breakdown. I didn't get "helpful" with the expensive option tbh. it does look like its worth shopping around though. Alex |

I'm with one call, they seem ok and price is very good. of course you only find out the quality of your insurance when you come to claim. |

insurance can be a hit and miss affair...I'm not a fan of budget quotes, you don't get anything for nothing in this world...If it seems to good to be true them it probably is, good for the basics of cover but that's about it..I was with the co-op for many years, they were dear but they paid out without question....during my time with them I had two new windscreens fitted, half the car sprayed when it got damaged on a dark road by a piece of metal left sticking out at road works and some carpark damage. None effected my no claims and the last occasion they didn't even send an engineer out to check the damage...I was always happy with their service until the price got too high and I was forced to change. I avoided all budget quotes and looked for regognised companies but none seemed right to me....eventually I went to a Porsche specialist and took out a classic policy (my first) with Locktons...Cost was just over £300 which was only around 20% of my last policy with co-op so a massive saving. It ticked all the boxes including agreed value ( which I'll double this year due to increased values) and I even had to use their breakdown service within the first few weeks of joining them....a very good service it was too...... Anyway I think what I'm saying is to ensure you have good cover from a company you can trust, that for me rules out all budget policies.....use a company that supports classic cars and knows how important these things are to their owners.... regards Pete |

Thanks for this Alex, what model of car is it you have. Must admit the quote from One Call does look good. They sponsor a football league team, Mansfield Town, which make them more attractive for me. |

Avoid Sureterm no matter what they offer. |

The thing to remember is that insurance companies are thieving B**tards who only exist to take your money and give nothing in return other than the piece of paper you are required by law to have. And you even have to print that yourself nowadays. They are obsessed with getting new business, hence the low quotes when you shop around, but have no desire to reward loyal customers. Adrian Flux For Example.... After many years and vehicle changes, last years premium for a 50 year old driving an '86 944 Lux fully comp £345. Same 50 year old posing as a new customer, '86 944 Turbo, US import, left hand drive fully comp, double the value, £200. Go figure..... |

Salvage rights are something worth considering too. My insurer gives me the car without charge in the event of a write off, some insurers don't want to or charge plenty. I also doubled the value this year in line with values, added about £50 to the premium. |

Generally every £1k of value adds £10-£15 to the premium. |
