do people change the front spindles and rear trailing arms, or are there converter adaptors? also what size disc/caliper will fit under 16inch fuch wheels? regards |

Expensive & you'll need quite a few bits. S2 callipers need spindles, hubs, callipers, discs & new flexis. Rears need washers as spacers, discs, callipers & possibly new pipes. All of the above was on a late ABS >87 type car, for a 924S you may need front wishbones & rear trailing arms to convert. Or possibly early turbo bits may work with non-ABS offsets. |

I realise all the bits required to convert as have already converted my 924 turbo to full 944 hubs/trailing arms etc to accept bigger brakes, but wanted wider rear track the abs hubs give too. I was more asking if it was necessary, or wether there are caliper adapters available to convert original hubs rather than replacing all the parts you mentioned. regards Nick |

924s spindles are holed for the speedo drive so are generally considered to be quite weak: you'll find plenty of scary photos on Rennlist!! Therefore it's best to do it properly and replace the spindles/hubs to 944. You can buy Wilwood kits for the 924/944 8v hubs so that's possibly an option. Or if you're hooked on the idea of Brembos then you'll need 86 951 spindles/hubs... |

Depending on which Wilwoods they are I'd rather stay on the stock 944/924S brakes TBH! On my Escort the difference between the Wilwood Dynalites that I removed and the Cosworth Hybrid setup up front (283mm 2WD Cosworth discs with 4WD sliding calipers) was staggering. Even on road pads the car is a superb stopper on track. However, the Cosworth brakes had the same effective piston size as an S2 RST caliper ; the Wilwoods size worked as almost half of it. Both were on 283mm discs. |

Both were on 283mm discs. A braking system, like anything is only as good as the sum of its parts. In this case the car had poorly matched calipers and hence the so-called 'upgrade' was actually a downgrade- that's user error and not a fault of the components themselves. Wilwood offer their calipers with multiple piston sizes and configurations so you have to do your homework to build up a properly matched system. As ever attention to detail is key - I would be cautious over running an assembled 'kit' for a race car so I would check all the details. That said some of their calipers are more show than go and suffer with flex, but some are excellent so you have to choose the right product for the right application. I actually have a pair of forged superlite 6 calipers on order for my 951 which I'm going to run with 993 304x32 rotors. The calipers I'm using have a similar piston area as M030 big black/big red calipers and have very good pad availability, yet are around the same price new as a fecked set of Brembo calipers. Unlike Brembos spares are readily available and are cheap. No brainer IMO... There's always scare stories and photos on Rennlist that you'll not find anywhere else Fair enough, but as far as the the hollow spindle is concerned there have been a lot of failures with plenty of photographic evidence. But that said I guess most of the drivers over there are carrying a bit more weight than us ![]() |

Never heard of a failure on a 924 in 6+ years on 924OC or 924board.org. I did search and it appears to be modified racing 944's that have experienced the failure on track due to upgraded suspension, brakes and race tyres |

thanks for info so far guys. this one is actually a question for a road car, i may look at other caliper options other than the original brembos. probably easier to adapt some calipers to suit the original discs rather than change everything to suit the calipers. just a thought anyway, being a road car, it may just benefit from a good brake service, high temp fluid, and some decent pads. |

This one may soon have 250bhp, hence the reason for possible upgrade. If it were a track car it would 100% require better braking, but for road use I think it will be a Case of seeing how the car stands up to the increased power with updated pads/fluid etc. And then upgrading from there if it feels underbraked. |

Sounds good to me, I've always started out with a car by making the best of the stock setup first and going from there. I'd recommend Ferodo DS2500 pads for a road car personally as these have always worked well for me. Plus they can stand up to some abuse on track if needs be... |
