After a few years away from the delight of burnt fuel and jump start cables, my wife bought me a Porsche 944 for my 40th Birthday. If thats not mid life crisis, then what is? I have owned various Porsche before and this is my first n/a 944.

She is a square dash 1985.5 (so last of the square dash 944s). Clocks show 59k miles, but i am sure that is more likely 159k as the tach only has 5 digits. The car is black with black Porsche script interior and white carpets.

I collected the car yesterday from a seller on here. He was great and has been very honest and helpful. Apart from the windscreen wipers stopping on the way back, it got home effortlessly. Turned out to be a loose fuse. Phew....

Lots of little jobs to do already - but thats what classic cars are all about - isnt it?

Got the run about from Adrian Flux on the day of purchase - Be wary!!
Here is a breif introduction:

More details to follow....
Parts i need already - driving lights in bumper, rear lens - anyone got any spares?

Love the wheels...

I got my insurance from PH at Asset Trust - no flannel, just insurance.

Congratulations on the purchase. Its a nice looking car. I do like the square dash cars and the cookie cutters.

A 1985.5 car is actually an oval dash car as the Series 2 cars which are also know as 1985.5 cars came out in the middle of 1985. I have an oval dash 1985 car.

Can't help on the country code. I thought I had a weird country spec! Mine is Hong Kong spec (country code C15).

In trying to locate your country code I did find the missing option code for mine, 666. This is the code for PCM Telephone Module! The crazy thing is there is no air con. The buyer splashed out on a car phone and a limited slip diff but scrimped on air con in one of the most humid locations on earth. Crazy.

Good colour. Mine is black too.

Telephone is M195. M666 is no lacquer. I don't doubt that that is what you read, but most 'knowledgeable' lists are just copied from elsewhere, unfortunately.

Is C85 the only C prefixed marking?

I will post up the sticker in the boot on here when I get home.

I am sure that it is C85 and I cant see C15 (UK car anywhere).

I stand corrected. Mine is a 1985 square dash car - a S1.

BTW: another question - is the Toast rack a Porsche original part? I don't like it at all!!!!

If it is black ABS then it is original. I believe that it was a dealer fit option, but Im not absolutely certain.

Post subject:  Re: Bought one! 1985 944 2.5 !

I finally cleared my garage and got the car inside to start building some confidence in the car. I gave the wife and kids one half of the double garage and the Porsche has taken over the other half. I bought £100 of used parts via TIPEC forum to replace a few nigles. This included the smashed front driving lights. I found a used set via ebay for £82.
So i started taking the front of the car apart to get to the fixings for the driving lights.

I found this....

Image

The front trim panel is only held on using what looks like gripfill!

Image

Digging a little deeper, I managed to get to the driving lights...

Image

No wonder they didnt work....

On the bench
Image

So rusty that the back end connector just fell apart. Some signs of someone using silicone bathroom sealant to botch these up...

and the pair...

Image

Lots of different screws, including self tappers and fixing holes with broken screws.

A little more poking around and I saw a rust pile on the floor, this used to be the horn. Pictures tomorrow after i stop crying.

Welcome Rav. Looks like you have a nice car there :)

I'm sure you'll have as much fun and enjoyment getting things sorted as you will driving her.

Good luck :)
