Post subject: | Wild Tach bounce while starting |
Hi guys, My 88 944S has fairly wild tach bounce while cranking, and turns over very slowly. It does start however. The other needles seem fairly erratic too, with the oil pressure never coming below 4 bar at idle when hot (although does bounce most of the time) and the volt meter won't register for the first 3-4 mins of driving. I'm imagining it must be earthing problems somewhere, but not sure where to start looking. Here is a link to the youtube video. http://youtu.be/FZWpu5xrG6Q Any ideas appreciated. Thanks in advance, John |

Looks to be the right side of the cluster, probably take out and clean up all connections and check the wiring on the back. Good time to fit LED's as well. |

If you decide to take the cluster out, take a look at http://www.clarks-garage.com. Look at the "Gauges" section within "Garage Shop Manual". Full instructions there. Cheers, Bryan |

From experience I'd also say an earth problem. Most of the gauges in mine had more of a compass effect when I first got it but after cleaning all earth point it sorted it out. Mines a square dash model but I found removing the dials and cleaning the points where they connect to the PCB helped as well. Good luck |

David For the 3 lights along the bottom of the cluster which are the main one's ebay, CANBUS 501's from memory. You will lose the ability to dim them. You can also get festoon one's for the interior lights, glovebox, number plate etc, think they are 41mm for interior and 36mm for the number plates. Other one's like the air vent, ashtray etc are 201 type. |

Thanks, I did put a search in the website for LED Dashboard Lights which gave me a Canbus E Bay web address but it no longer exists. Having read more about this I think I will go to Maplin and see if I can get new "regular" bulbs. The reflective plastic in my dash seems to be in good condition. David |
