Post subject:  Oil in the spark plug wells

Hi Folks -

On a spark plug inspection the other day, a couple of the plug wells were harboring quite a few of mls of engine oil - enough so for it to dribble back into the head, when the spark plugs were removed.

I had this problem several years ago (all four plugs knee deep) and it was fixed by some sealer gubbins, by my local friendly Porsche tech.

Well, as the seepage has returned, I have ordered a new main cam cover gasket and the four oil seal plugs: Items 6 and 7 as the below pic...

I would like to know any advice on fitting the new gaskets - ie: should I use a silicon sealer, or can they be fitted dry?

Thanks Chums -

Don't use silicone if you have a cat

Use RTV that's what they recommend in the workshop manual

I had to replace this gasket when I did my tensioner slippers. No sealant of any kind required. If my memory serves me correctly, the cam cover is held in place with 13 bolts and I'm almost certain each of those have a rubber seal or washer of some kind. I replaced them when refitting the cam cover.

Cheers,
Bryan
