Can anyone tell me what the oil capacity is for a 2.7 after oil cooler seals please.

Put 5.5 litres in but still at the bottom dipstick mark!

Cheers,

Dave

It's an incredible amount of oil but it is a large engine.

Don't you have a handbook Dave? Series two cars have a larger oil capacity than series ones did.

Not ideal, but I can copy an '89 HB for you, if need be.

The later models (S2) have a separate oil cooler. This will add another 1ltr at least to the normal engine oil capacity.
6.5ltrs Shell Helix 7 tops the dipstick on mine...

That's a ridiculous amount of oil. My old 2.8i capri only took 5lts as did my v6 calibra.

Thanks for the handbook link - much appreciated. Do have one, but is still boxed up somewhere after moving.

It is a hell of a lot of oil. Having now put all of the 6 litres I had in, finally it is over the minimum on the dipstick. Was getting worried where it was all going! But I guess I overlooked the oil cooler amount plus this is an auto too.

Will pick up some more tomorrow, ready for the big start up after oil-cooler seals, balance shaft bearings and seals, OPRV seals, head OPRV seals, head welded, skimmed (twice - don't ask), valve guides, o/s engine mount, steering shaft, belts, pulleys, oil separator seals, dipstick and tube seals, water pump, power steering pump seals...and more.

As always, still more to do...
