My headlights won't go down properly. They raise fine, but stick just after starting to go down. The motor keeps spinning (very rapidly), and with a gentle nudge on one of the pods, down they go, with the motor switching itself off when they're down. Clearly the fuse is OK, and I guess the relay and rotary switch must also be good as the motor stops when the pods are fully up or down.

If I remove fuse 1 and then raise or lower the pods manually (using the knob on the end of the motor), I cannot notice any sticky point - but is there anything else that can be causing this problem ? One thing I cannot understand from the Clarks Garage guide is how the motor is physically connected to the linkage.

My S2 (yours?) does this sometimes. Not quite as you explain it but the pods nod up and down when switched off. The fault is with the dash board light switch not closing the circuit properly. If that helps...

Mine's an '84 square dash. Pretty sure the switch must be OK otherwise the relay wouldn't operate correctly (?)

All the pop lights from 924 - 944 - 968 work the same method. The motors are basically fail safe and use a similar fuse/relay arrangement. Other blogs talk about the cabin switch causing a problem but also the relay not being 100% efficient...

Hmm, having read elsewhere that the switch could/would be the cause of the fault, I ordered a new one courtesy of my local-ish OPC (£5-ish). Fitted it - and no, the problem is exactly the same as before. I guess it must be the linkage after all.

Spent a few hours today adjusting mine as they would not go down

If the motor keeps running whilst the pod does not move then the nut on the motor spindle may be loose as mine stalled when it stopped moving.

Maybe a silly question but when you tested it manually did you turn the knob in the same direction to raise and lower? ...... :oops: when I was testing mine I wrongly assumed that the motor changed direction, it does not.....it can jamb if the pod is slightly to far rearward compared with the bracket

I'll have a look at the motor spindle - that seems like the sort of thing which could cause the problem.

Yes, I did turn the knob one way only, both to raise and to lower the lights.
