Sort one problem, and up pops another (pun intended ...)

I finally got the aux headlights working properly, and decided to fit Osram Nightbreakers to the main headlights. All went well until I put the trims back around the headlights and switched the sidelights off (so the headlights should go down). Something snagged the driver's side pod, probably the screw at the bottom of the trim piece. Now the motor spins and gets hot if the light switch is in position 0 or 2, but won't move the pods. Turning the end of the motor with the light switch in position 1 has no effect. The fact that the motor spins means that the relays and fuses are all ok (?), so I'm now driving with fuse 1 removed and the pods permanently up.

I'm guessing that the motor has had it. Any other ideas ?

Jammed pod most likely - even at the other end of the motor rail link shaft possibly...

If one is jammed (doesn't really feel like it to me), how do I free it ?

Remove the shrouds - see if that works - retrace your steps - check for cabling snagging etc. The pods should retract with the motor wheel (you mentioned that they don't), which is independent from the motor drive itself...
