Post subject:  Luggage compartment light and electric windows

On my square dash car the luggage compartment light has a three position switch - on, off and (presumably) on when lid is open. The Pelican Parts wiring diagram (http://www.pelicanparts.com/944/electrical/944_84_4_1.jpg) shows a "rear lid switch", which I imagine would enable that third position. Where is that switch ?

The wiring diagram for electric windows (http://www.pelicanparts.com/944/electrical/944_84_elec_windows.jpg) shows a connection from the luggage compartment light to the electric window control relay, whereas I had expected to find a connection from the door switches. On my car the windows do operate when the ignition key is in the switch and a door is open, which is as expected. Is Pelican's wiring diagram wrong, or does it only apply to US market cars, perhaps ?

I have recently bought a 968 Coupe and I am puzzling about the boot light switching as well. It has the same 3 position switch on the light unit that you describe but I cannot find a pressure or position switch anywhere?

Is the 'switch' on the offside rear taillight strut? as it is on my 85 924? the contact wears, and stops the light coming on when only the rear hatch is opened after a few years.... :(

Yup, I recall that it was on the tailgate strut of my old '24 ...

I note that on my car (968) there is a wire connected to the nearside gas strut at the bottom and the top (where it seems to be connected to the heated rear screen).

I will have to swat up my Japanese and look at the owners manual!

I am trying to find an English manual - I have seen some from the USA on E Bay, and I have other contacts out there. But if anyone has a spare English 968 Owners Manual -please let me know.

On the 968 the bottom mount on the OS is the ground, the wire at the bottom is the boot light earth, the wire at the top is the heated rear window ground.

I scanned the English owners manual for 92 968 I will find and post a link to it

The rear cabin boot light will only switch on (operate) when the front cabin light is also switched on. ie if you open a door and the interior light comes on, so will the tailgate light but only if you have it switched to do so in conjunction. The tail gate has no independent 'switch' when the tailgate is opened.

The window motors (when no ignition on), will only work when a door is open...so yes, the wiring is strange.

The tailgate on a 968 has its own switch in the plastic part at the bottom of the right hand strut

As mentioned above in the connected wires
