I am currently collecting spares to refurb my 1986 2,5 l 163PS spec. 944.
I got new rear discs - apparently the correct part number shall be 928 352 041 02 (which shall be the same as 944 352 041 02). So far so good. Theses discs feature a hand brake diameter of 180 mm.
Now for the hand brake shoes, different sources will sell brake shoes with only 164 mm diameter - but when I check the 180 mm diameter shoes, the (ebay) stores claim that these are the wrong ones?
Now, do I have the wrong discs or what would the correct hand brake shoe part number be?

I am a little puzzled :(
Whether the discs or shoes, either of them is just plain wrong?
Maybe anybody can tell me the correct brake shoe part number or confirm if the 180 mm diameter is correct?

I think these should be correct: 928 352 097 10
but ebay always points to those:
986 352 995 01

Cheers,
Markus

IMHO don't trust eBay ;).

Even ECP sometimes get it wrong ; they list 6 spark plugs to use with my Clio despite Renault only selling platinum types, the same again for Mondeos that have the same thing. That is a pain on the Clio and Mondeo V6 where the plugs require the inlet manifold to be removed meaning that a long life is not necessarily a bad thing.

Which stores are claiming what? PM me if you wish.

I had the same problem a few months back, I have a 1986 944s the problem is there was a model change in 1987 and some 1986 built 944 are actually 1987 models .As far as I know 1986 models use the 164mm and 1987 use 180mm.Hope this makes some sense.

Well,
currently I think it is more like the other way around - early 180mm, later 164mm. Most sources claim that the 180 mm will fit:
Porsche Boxster S 3.2L
Porsche 996 all models
Porsche 964 all models
Porsche 993 all models
Porsche 944 all models
Porsche 928 all models
Porsche 968 all models
Porsche 924S/924 Turbo
Porsche 930 all models
Porsche 987 all models
Porsche 997 all models,

but I guess there is no way around removing 1 rear wheel and check what is going on in there. A perfect reason to swap garages, out with the Baja Bug and in with the Porsche :D
So maybe this weekend I will move cars around and see if / how I start... but I know myself - if I start working on it, it will sit there until it works perfect again

I bought a set of hand brake shoes from Euro Car Parts for my 968 which they said were correct, but they didn't fit. Turns out that ECP don't know the difference between a 968 and 986!
So on that basis, I would say that shoes for a Boxster won't fit a 944.

I finally got around taking the car in the garage to check what's up. The 180 mm brake shoes are indeed the correct ones. Thanks for your comments and advises. I started a little work on the Porker as well.
