Afternoon all

Got stuck out in a monsoon yesterday and ended up going through a rather large puddle after which the car spluttered and cut out. For the next 10 mins it would fire off the key and then splutter at low revs and cut out. After a fair bit of perseverance it gradually came back to life enough to get home but my AFR,s seem all over the place and it's defo not running right. What have I soaked that needs attention?

Cheers

Stuart

AIr filter & housing will be awash, maybe damaged AFM. Coil, leads & dizzy cap will need a remove & dry.

Dizzy was bone dry. There was some evidence of water in in snorkel before air filter. Seems MAF related. Have just left it running for a bit, hopefully dry out and be ok. AFR's have settled a little but currently a tad lean. Running smoothly again though so fingers crossed.

To replace your maf Google or eBay and look for

Bosch 0 280 217 531

That's the part number of the Alfa Romeo MAF that's used in the kit

Loads of different ones but don't buy a cheap Chinese copy they react far to slowly stick with Bosch

Cheapest Bosch I found was about 90 quid, but try you local Bosch automotive supplier first, found them cheaper for almost anything genuine Bosch on Porsches

Cheers Martin. Unfortunately ordered a cheapo before your advice! If it fixes my problem I'll buy a genuine one.

Cheers

So the MAF sensor was indeed gubbed. My cheap clone arrived today. It seems to idle a bit rich 11.5/12 on the AFR gauge, but it drives well enough and reacts quick enough. AFR's are fine when driving but I would say about 1 richer than before. Cruise used to be 14's and is now 13's. Fine on WOT. I wonder if a proper Bosch air flow sensor would fix the idle issue or if the SciVision controller maybe needs calibrated to the new air flow sensor. Any bright sparks able to answer that?? Either way the car is perfectly driveable and is now not lean in any way!

how this panned out, did you try the genuine Bosch one and if so was it any different?

Well the cheapo one proved not that good. Car was driveable but rich, very rich at idle and chokingly rich at warm idle. It did serve to tell me that the old sensor was gubbed. My new bosch one arrived today which is now fitted and she now runs faultless again!

Good advice Martin about avoiding cheapo MAF's but in my case it at least proved my old MAF was knackered and a happy ending all round with my new bosch one now fitted!

Cheers

Stuart

Yeah it is. Was starting to think I'd be chasing problems for ages so all good now. The company I got the cheapo from have agreed to refund my 28 quid after I explained it wasn't fit for purpose. Fair play to them and a result for me! On to fitting my new alternator next. A nasty job on a turbo!!
