Post subject:  Blowing the window fuses

Recently, my 944 lux has taken to blowing the electric window fuse. Throughout the summer, it was fine, but now something is causing the fuse to blow quite violently - the last (25A) fuse was blown clear of its holder, with one end of the fuse physically damaged. I don't think it's related to operation of either window and I'm guessing that there's a dead short somewhere, maybe a live touching to earth when going over a bump.

So the question is, how to track this down when I cannot force the fault ? Are there any known areas of the wiring circuit which are known to suffer from chafing (such as around the a-pillar/door hinge area, perhaps) ? This is an early, square dash, car with the fuses below the glove box.

Early 944s (square dash) were prone to water ingress into the battery base floor plate, then hence into the fuse box below. As you mentioned that this hadn't happened during dry (summer) conditions, you could have a water leak into the fuse box...

There are drain holes to stop this - yours maybe blocked or the battery floor plate rusted...
