... a broken 944 speedo head kicking around that I can swap for a few beer tokens? I've been repairing the broken odo cog and everything's gone swimmingly in that department, but not knowing how the speedo needle mounted into the drive I didn't realise that I'd broken the shaft as I'd extracted it from the mechanism. I'm trying to repair the shaft but at 0.5mm diameter I'm running out of options regarding sleeving, so it might just be simpler to replace the mechanism with a salvaged item... Let me know eh? Hi Greggers - Get an old/scrap complete speedo and rebuild it - as you suggest. The needle is a gentle 'wriggle-pull' against the end stop when removing, NO tools just fingers... Make sure your 'new' speedo is from an S2! Dave CT |

Well, everything went swimmingly well yesterday, the test drive proved that the speedo worked and cross checking with the GPS told me I needed to re-calibrate by about +5mph. This morning was good too and the speed check outside the local school was the same as the GPS. This afternoon however the speedo took a little nap and stopped working. @rse. Just as well I made a contingency purchase from our friend Steve Strange, (and I have to say that the service was stellar... ) It was sold as spares/repairs so hopefully it's just the odo thats fooked and the speedo mech will be ok to transplant. Lets see wha the transplant brings.. Greg |
