I have a replacement engine that I have been stripping and started rebuilding. I'm currently on the bottom end. While taking the sump off I realised that this engine has the oil level sensor (idiot light indicator) fitted, so I'm guessing this is a post 87 engine. My 944 is an 84..... So questions are:
1.As I'm not going to be using the sensor can I leave this out and just fit a blanking plate on the sump?
2. If no to above (why?) do I put it back together with it back in and not connect anything to it?
3. How the hell do I line it back up and get the rubber bung back in the tube again?

4. Is there anything else I should be aware of putting a post 87 lump in a pre 87 car?

Ta. :D

You can get a blanking plate and gasket from Porsche.

Perfect! Another visit to my local Porsche centre. First time I visited was last week, got free coffee, biscuits and got to charge my phone! I'm sure they were disappointed when asked for two bits of rubber and eight bolts bolts...

Thanks

If you really want to "disappoint" them, pay in cash. I caused near panic in OPC Reading by trying to pay for £1.66 in parts with a £2 coin... "Could you use a card, sir? We don't have change!"
