Due to track car distractions, a holiday, and other things called work and life, my 944 sat looking sorry for itself from July until October while I tried to find time to diagnose a leaky sunroof. It's amazing how a car gets dirtier sitting still than being driven! Anyway, the net result of this is that I have only driven 1300 miles since this time last year when I changed the oil. As it consumes a reasonable amount (possibly a litre or so in that time), and mileage is so low, do I even need to bother changing it this year? It still looks quite honey coloured on the dipstick too. |

Personally I would still change it. Oil deteriorates over time even if not used. I always change oil on my cars in March and September regardless of mileage done so they have fresh oil for summer and winter. |

Cheers Pilch. I suppose everyone else must be thinking the same thing or else I would have some other replies. I'll change it anyway. You can never have too many oil changes! |

Ahh there we are, a debate! But as Pilch has said, oil degrades over time. A lot of people swear by yearly oil changes contributing to engine longevity. |

£20 worth of Halfords finest, I'd change it. £60+ of real synthetic, I'd leave it in. |

IMO it depends. If the car has been moved in and out of the garage a bit then I would changed it. If however the car has not moved and it is dry stored I would leave it until next year ![]() |
