Good Morning guys,

I'm in the process of a driveway rebuild, really happy that i had managed to fit some new red bearings and once i put the car back on the floor with wheels on, i noticed the ones that came off were 0.25 oversize,
needless to say, i felt a little bit ill after all that work to realise i have to redo it all.
either way, finding it V difficult to find these oversize bearings from anywhere except porsche, do glyco not stock them?

I'd talk to either EMC or a local engine reconditioner. Are the bearings you've put in standard sizes? If they are I'd expect it to be very loose when you turn it by hand, surprised you didn't notice to be honest.

It's my first time delving this deep in to an engine so i've not developed the feel for much of that stuff yet,

Porsche want £280 delivered which isn't horrible but still kind of annoying on top of the £80 i already spent on std ones.

I'll speak to some local engine builders but the ones i used for the head said they would need the block to do it properly and garauntee it, which is reasonable but i don't want to pull it from the car.

Thank you Jim,

I've now got in contact with EMC, they are asking for FAR less money but a bit more time. Guess i'm without car for the next two weeks, bolting the subframe back on tonight and am going to fit the head in the interim methinks..

Edit, I called emc back and they seem convinced I am wanting undersized bearings, after re iterating that I want oversize multiple times, just being told that I'm wrong, starting to get rather annoyed, I emailed over the parts diagram with the original part highlighted so when part is confirmed tomorrow hopefully this can be sorted

Hi

personally when it comes to engine bearings I'd only use genuine items, yes they seem overly expensive when compared to the standard bearings but imho worth the money. A few questions....You don't say why the engine is being rebuilt?....are you sure the old bearings need replacing? The engine has clearly had work done to it in the past, do you have any idea when, why and what? I would measure the internal parts carefully to get a good idea of what state the engine is actually in, considering the conrod bearings are oversize I'd be checking the wrist pins very closely for wear, there should be no rock of the pin in it's bearing, again take measurements to ensure they are within spec.

Hi Pete,
I had a head gasket issue and when i got the head off, i had a week wait for it all to be ported and recut ect so i thought as a just in case measure i'd swap the bearings for new ones if the coolant and oil mix had got in there, i say rebuild, i'm doing an engine in rebuild meaning i am not having the crank off or the pistons out more of a top end rebuild and bottom end refresh!

I'm not going as far as wrist pins, the car ran okay without knocking, i did have noisy tappets though so that may have disguised the noise, the bearings came off with very minor wear on just 2 and 3 so i can only suspect that they were doing okay but whilst i'm in there i'm an absolute sucker for spending more money wherever i can! haha
