Post subject:  Fault finding brake pad light help needed

Hi all,

I've got an intermittent brake pad light coming up on the dash.
New abs unit and brake pads in last few months so likely not that.

How can I find out what it is with my multimeter?
I've cleaned up the earths on the wear cable as these were awful!

I'd have a good look at the cables and make sure they're not cut/damaged anywhere 1st.

What's the method for checking the wire? I assume if I pull out the wear cable from the connector i can test both the cable, and the connections to the fuse box in the same process?

If I connect my mulitmeter to the end of the wear cable am I looking for a continuous circuit with the cable?
What should I be looking for with the connector box? Assume I'm looking for 12v? (i.e. where the wear cable plugs in)

Thanks all.

The wear indicators are a wire loop. WHen the pad runs out it wears the loop & then breaks the wire. TBH on a well maintained car I would bin then & loop them out. Which is what I did with mine.

Thanks, I understand that they break their circuit when they wear.
All my pads and discs are new and i've renewed the earths on the abs / wear cable unit.

How can i check the cable and rule this out with a multimeter? And similarly how can i check the other wiring. Fault is intermittent but light is on 80% of the time.

if you have had all the sensors out of the plastic blocks make sure they are all clean and good contacts inside.

a crusty pin would cause a problem

also im not sure they need to be broken just grounded out is enough i think

I'll go with that, changed my pads and sensors this year and they have taken a few hundred miles to settle down.

Did you change the sensors or at the very least clean them?
