My s2 failed the mot yesterday three neat little holes left by the tester on the outer sills, I knew the outers would need doing eventually, I drenched them with bolt hamber when I bought the car 4 years ago. It failed also on brakes front hoses which i had but had not got round to fitting. I am at a cross roads with this car right now, do I patch it for now and keep and do both sill when finances allow I certainly can not afford the full job at present or do I just garage and moth ball for a while. The thing is this car I have become very proud and fond of this car. Time for a beer a beer or two I think. |

Thanks Jinxster, knowing you have mothballed your car has edged me towards taking my time and preserving this car, I think patching would only be temporary and may make things worse. Its too good not to repair properly. Time to sort the garage out! Regards Mark |

Regards Mark I've just bought a car that was mothballed, It has just cost me a small fortune to put back on the road and still have a few niggly things left, but the grin remains on your face long after the sour taste of the bills subside. |

Yes I too have spent a small fortune refurbishing and maintaining my car and reasonable on the mechanical side of things, thinking now of storing and getting the body work right. |

I paid a little over 4k for my S2 cab, 3 years ago. I immediately got everything done that was needed, which cost me another 4.5k. OUCH! I knew there was lots to do, but there were a few big ticket items I missed on the test drive.... But, having spent all that, the car has only needed service items ever since, which makes for cheap motoring. If you're in a position financially and you expect to keep the car - take the pain now and enjoy the car for years to come. Cheers, Bryan |

It's just that £500 to £2000 can be eaten on modern cars sooooo easily these days that keeping something old tip top may?!?!?! be the cheaper alternative in the long run. They just hate being stood doing nothing... if you cant afford it buy a little fiat 1.2 ![]() |

Update: I have had a repair to almost the whole of the off side sill and a decent patch repair on the near side sill, by my local indy, It cost me a shade over £500. I have since applied bolt hamber dynax s50 into each sill. I now have a full mot and the smile back on my face. Would have loved to have spent big money but the car comes secondary to the family. ![]() |
