Hi Folks - Replacing the cam belt and the other auxiliary belts is important but how often do 'we' also replace the all-important bearing cogs that drive them? I had mine all replaced, whilst on a cam belt change, a while back and the droning noise from the engine (which I thought just normal) disappeared and the motor now sounds like a well oiled sowing machine... Erm, what are the 'bearing cogs'? Do you mean the rollers (as Pete said)? If so then yes, it's advisable to change them with every (or possibly every other) belt change. Oli. |

balance shaft gears shouldn't need changing unless they have been damaged in some way, what should be checked is the 'top hats' as these get deep groves ground into them by the balance shaft oil seals which means they leak, always check their end float and avoid what OPC's and specialists tend to do in that they will fit extra plastic shims to take up the access end float instead of replacing the 'top hats'.. Hi Folks - Sorry - my terminology (and spelling...) was a bit vague on my post. As I was rightly corrected, it was the belt rollers and the cogged wheels (ie cam belt rollers) that I was referring to. The old ones that I had replaced, I cleaned up and sprayed and now sit in a little tower on a shelf in my lounge - strange but true... Dave SA |
