Post subject:  What's that noise?

My car is a 944 S2 Cabriolet.

Since I bought it over 3 years ago, I get a sort of clunking noise when I straighten up after a right hand bend at slow speed. The car has been serviced at 4 different places in that time and none of them have mentioned anything. As it isn't really causing a problem, I've kind of got used to it and don't really notice it.

As it'll soon be winter and it'll spend a lot of time tucked away in the garage, so I'm thinking of getting to the bottom of it myself, rather than paying a garage to troubleshoot it.

Any ideas what it might be?

Cheers,
Bryan

Hi Briggy,
I had exactly that in mine and became used to it.

It wasn't until it went in for a gearbox refurb would you believe, the mechanic was mooching around and found the front n/s arb mount was in two!

I guess the clunk was it moving around unrestricted.

Worth a look, but if you have had people look at it already, I would think they would see that.

Your symptoms are identical though

Good luck

I'd check the top of the front damper tubes - mine had some sideways sloppiness if you gave it a pull from the wheel arch.. Then take a look at the castor mounts - mine were loose(ish) and needed to be torqued up (I'm ashamed to admit to a schoolboy oversight on my part when replacing the old mounts...)

Thanks folks. Will do some investigating in a few weeks when it gets tucked up in the garage. At least I now know it's more likely to be suspension than steering.

Cheers,
Bryan
