I have a small leak coming from the back of the engine . It seems to be the cork cam gasket. any idea where is best to get this part? |

Check the bolts are tight, I found one missing on my S and others loose, all OK when tightened. Gaskets may be obtained from OPC or here http://www.frazerpart.com/ |

I used Loctite 474 an aerobic oil sealant instead of gasket . No more dried out cork gasket means no more oil leaks. |

Yep I agree its odd why the engineers sometimes choose to do strange things. A simple "o"ring would have been a much better design. I tracked a Dolly Sprint for years and those engines are very fragile and the engineers decided to put a poorly located cam box gasket on them. I never fitted one and used a smear of silicone and no more leaks. Maybe Porsche owned a cork forest

so new gasket fitted and seems to be running ok . However just as the engine warms up im still having some smoke out of the bonnet ....  But the area around the newly installed gasket is bone dry so does not appear to be any leaks.After the engine has warmed up throughly there is no smoke . I do wonder if the smoke is just the remnants of the old oil that had leaked out when the gasket had gone as access wasnt great for me to clean all traces of oil off the block etc. Any one else have an opinion on this ? |

Hi I had a similar issue on an s2 couple of years back Cleaned up as much spilt oil as I could & the rest burned off eventually After the cork gasket is replaced the nuts/ bolts need torquing in a particular order if I remember correctly Hope this helps Cheers steve

I net Tony Dron at Le Mans a few years ago he spoke warmly of that car. |

Ah Tony Dron I remember spectating at Silverstone in 79 when he won half a lap up in the touring car championship and that was against the 3litre Capri's and BMW's which were supposed to be a class higher! An outrite win for a "B" clas car. This was the wife and I having a track day jaunt at Castle Combe a few years ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzNogIyQCfs Oh by the way burning off the oil is normal despite being a worry! What also freaks is after a blown head gasket and the exhaust system has water in it and steams for a couple of miles AFTER fixing the head gasket!! |

I have the gasket fix for nearly 2 weeks now (I dont use the car daily) and i still have smoke . i cleaned off all the oil that I could do i just have to wait till it all burns off. There is no leaks around the newly installed gasket . Coul I have yet another leak  ?

Thats a shame looks like you are going to have to clean it all carefully and take it for a short spin to find where its coming from. If it helps I have a list of jobs on my cars to do. |

Turns out to be a weeping rocker cover gasket . I can only see it listed as part of a head gasket set . Is there anywhere I can get the rocker cover gasket on its own? |

Hi mate Yes, readily available on line As mentioned on my first reply when replacing, bolts need to be tightened in a particular order and they need to torqued, & believe me they can easily be over tightened !! Hope this helps Cheers steve |
