i think i might be a bit of a pain on here, as it'll be a steep learning curve....
my main concern is the oil pressure....the car's had a bit of a history of engine rebuild, oil pressure relief valve and sender changes....what it's doing now is this:

on cold starting the gauge shoots up to beyond 5, even at idle. The gauge does not drop until the engine is warm, maybe 10 minutes later, and it only drops to 4....the gauge only seems to have 2 positions, 4 and beyond 5. Once warm, when idling or driving gently in 5th at , say, 60, it'll stay at 4, give it some revs and it goes upto beyond 5. Any ideas?

Next one, on driving it home (a long way), found centre exhaust cracked

Buy an oil pressure gauge and stick it in the sender hole check it with that before any knee jerk reactions

sorry, pressed wrong button, (that first pic was supposed to be the second one)....anyway, it was a Dansk centre section, i thought they were supposed to be pretty good....has anyone fitted a flexible section in their exhaust? (its a lot of exhaust to be vibrating around)....also, what are the saddles supposed to be for

Finally, anyone want to do a swap of my Boxster wheels/tyres for some D90's. I'd prefer narrower tyres, so should i fit 7" wide D90's all round?

Grats on you acquisition. Check the oil sender connection is the right way round seem to remember mine did that when connection was reversed after engine swap.
Has it's got the right exhaust fitted looks a bit odd to me?

thanks....i'll try and get some more pics of exhaust....wouldn't surprise me if it were wrong .

On wheels, it seems there are 3 types of D90 16": 6J/ET52 7J/ET55 and 8J/ET52
On a 2.5, would it be Ok to put the 6J at front and 7J rear (i.e have a mix of ET's)

Re your Dansk exhaust :(
Same with me when I bought my 944 with its lovely shiny stainless exhaust just over 18 months old and blowing like a goodun I welded it up myself and 2 years later its still fine if a bit noisy.
I believe Dansk use the wrong grade stainless as the best systems on other cars have pipes made from duller rust resistant (but mallable) pipework and only the boxes are shiny.

Good luck with yours.

Dont worry about being a pain, thats what the forum is for to share and learn!

Re oil pressure. I purchased my 944 2.5 lux couple of months ago and oil pressure readings were exactly as you described. I have recently gone through the car cleaning elctrical ground connections, engine sensor connections and the instrument binnicle connections, now both the oil pressure and temp guage are working and reading correctly. I woukd start by checking and cleaning the connections on the oilmpressure sender first.

I'll second the cleaning of earth points and found it solved a bunch of issues on my 924. I also pulled the pod apart and cleaned the connectors for the fuel\temp gauge which gave a more stable temp reading. Sure I found a list\diagram of earth point online somewhere?? Ill add a link if I can find it again.

Good luck

Ground points, from the back looki g at car
1. Battery ground
2. Centre rear under carpet near spare wheel well
3. Under glove box x2 one is on wing wall other is right under back of glove box
4.bell housing to frame, centre of firewall at top, engine side
5. Just inside headlamps in engine bay on support arms. Drivers side will require removal of headlamp motor (unless you have extremely small hands)

tried swapping oil sender wires, still the same ....

thanks Prophead that's a really useful list, at least i'm not quite so worried about the oil pressure now

visited Mr Exhaust, they're going to repair crack and put a 6" flex in the front pipe....I have a feeling this car might keep me rather too busy
