had the chap from chips away 'round this morning to look at the damage on my drivers door caused by some mindless moron, he spent about an hour trying to find a colour match, speaking to collegues and his help desk, only to find out the info on his laptop only goes back 10 years altho he had a swatch for guards red (the fastest colour) it was nowhere near the colour of my car, i did explain that being 20 years old it had probably seen some paint and of course been discoloured by summer sunshine (but not recently !!) but he wasn't put off and will be back on monday with more info and will try a paint mix to see how close to my colour it is, the mix can be wiped off apparently, he has quoted £100 for the scratch, if he can do it, if not no charge

Used to do paint a few years ago,red is a complete PITA to match. Even normally their could be 20 or so shade differences with it. And that's before you factor in age.....

You mean to say he won't charge you for not doing the work? That's a novel idea

I had Chips away do my stone chips - he quoted £20/chip (I think), but when I told him I'd got about half a dozen, he offered to do the full car (bonnet, wings, bumper 10-15 chips, door edges x2 + assorted others here and there) for £100+vat.
He's done a grand job of getting rid of the chips, and I lent him some of my touch up paint to fill the holes (as his airbrush technique doesn't actually fill holes). Only criticism is I will now have to Scratch-X my bonnet as he seems to have tried to polish it - bummer. Only shows up under artificial light (I think). Will do it tomorrow.

Whatever colour it was, it isn't now. I get paint for mine mixed to the car & now have a colour card to order paint off. For £100 you could get the whole door done by my paint man. He paints Astons & Jags mainly! :)

My bro has a bodyshop in Rugeley.
They do custom and show work for the VW boys and have done a few tasty motors here and there, most recently an Aston Martin Vanquish, so they know their stuff.
His place is called 'Base 21' and he's on Power station rd.
Let me know if you're interested.

Some moron has keyed mine i only noticed it today but i have 3 nice key lines on the drivers side rear quarter. We think we know who has done it cause he has been known to do it in the past as well as slash tyres, and recently has threatened to clamp cars parked on the street at the side of the house............ What bugs me the most is it wasnt even blocking the guys entrance to his drive it was on the corner out of the way, but it now means the rear quarter will have to be re-painted before i can do the pearl white respray

i know who's done it its just proving it i might throw a nitromorse parcel over h'es gate onto he's car. apparently he has damaged many cars if not by keying them but also by slashing tyres. i think its time he had some of he's own!
