I had a crunch on 1st gear last month, and when I took it to a local Porsche garage, he got in the footwell and adjusted something which made it go away. It came back after a spirited drive a few days ago, and I was just wondering if the nut he adjusted had come loose again maybe..? Any how to documents on doing this yourself? Is it easy enough to adjust, and does it sound like that's all it will be?

Ok, having adjusted the clutch so that it was a little higher (about 3-4mm play) it STILL did it when I went for a long drive. It works fine for local drives around 10-30mile, but once I've been on the motorway for a good hour or so, once I then pull off onto a side road then go for 1st at a light for example, CRUNCH. It's quite violent too.

Any ideas? Someone at a Porsche garage said that it sounds like a hydraulic issue. Just wondering if it's a common one on these 944s?

Agree with the hydraulic issue try pumping the clutch before trying first. If it's better, bleed the clutch, if it comes back again after that, replace the slave. It's a common problem on 993s and replacing the slave is a bit of a pain, but not done it on a 944.
