On my walk to work, a white 944 Turbo Cab passed by me. Never seen one of those in the flesh before! Had some lovely white painted Cup 2 alloys as well. Looked the business, aside from the numberplates which were chav-tastic things in a horrible typeface. Also, the rear plate was missing and stuck in the back window.

Still … a nice rarity for a Monday morning!

A white '44 was in the car park on Sunday. Looked quite tidy. Must just have been visiting. Put a tipec flyer under the wiper before it went though :)

Saw a white 944, from a distance though, going into Halfords' car park in Northwich. I think it was a 'S' as I could see the 'ventilever' sign on the side of it. Don't see many 944s round here, and I wasn't even in mine at the time but the wife's MX5 - or I would have gone and said hello.

It’s funny, Porsches are common as muck around here but a nice or unusual older one always stands out. There’s four just in our little housing development: A 996 C4, my two 944s and a gorgeous white 968 Sport.

Sorry, better clear up my statement - you don't see many 944s around.

In my village there are a lot of nice cars. My neighbour has a Boxter, there's a couple of 996s or (whatever you call them), two Aston Martins, a Corvette, an M5 (he only ever goes to the paper shop and back), an M6, Audi S5, and all sorts of lesser sports cars like Z3s, MX5s, Mini Coopers etc etc - it is a posh Cheshire village after all - which is why the Gypsies have chosen to move in a couple of weekends ago! The owner of Christopher Neil (TVR Lotus Subaru dealer) lives here, as does somebody who has something to do with Bauer Millet in Manchester - hence the Corvette.

And if you want to see the latest posh cars just go into Knutsford to eat out one evening, that's where the money is.

It's just cheap 944s like mine that are quite rare, ha ha.

its funny, along the same lines if i wave at a fellow 944, 924 of 968 i get a wave back, the same with older 911s, but 996, 997 or boxsters just look at you as if you are an alien

Unfortunately Lindsay, a lot of people just buy Porsches as a financial statement nowadays. Ask them all what 'Carrera' means and about 90% (or even more) won't even know! You and I and us (on this site) drive around acknowledging each other because we're nice guys who appreciate what we have, but the aliens drive around with the price tags flapping in the wind for everybody to see.

You can approach anybody in an older Porsche and they will talk to you, but not the newer ones. Funny thing though, if somebody happened to ask them and us what we drive - the answer is the same!

I think it’s fair to say that once a car gets older, only the enthusiasts continue to maintain and drive them. There are just as many 997 and Boxster owning enthusiasts, but they’re hidden amongst all the ‘regular’ modern Porsche drivers on the road!

Every now and again I get a wave and a game of follow-the-leader from a GT3 driver or similar. It’s quite heartwarming, really.
