Post subject:  using universal relay in ignition relay

Sorted a non working blower, windows and wipers by swapping out the ignition relay and putting the "horn" one in... :)
Anyway, does that mean the universal ones on the bay which are about $7 can be used in place of the originals which all have different numbers on the sides (as long as they are 4 spaded). I know the dme one is different.
If they really are universal its probably worth having spares and swapping the ones out that are nearly 30yr old.
Can't get my head around how the originals are all different but a universal one works the lights and now apparently the ignition relay, which incidentally was tall and looked different to all the others. Here is what I put in

Some have diodes in, some have resistors and some have timers. Although a universal may work it may not work as intended.

Cool, thanks. So I think I'll get a couple as spares and see what they work in...alex
