Hi Guys One of my teledials is well & truly stuck on. I've sprayed copious amounts of penetrating oil, use a heavy hammer but will it shift ..... No. Any suggestions please? Ta |

I had this on my Saab when I bought it. With the car safely supported I spend time kicking the tyre at opposite sides vertically and horizontally until it eventually budged from the hub. Not really sure there's a "quick" way??? Good luck! |

I've done the same as Russ before now on my old 924. Either that or get a decent sized piece of wood behind it and lever it off. Put some carpet down on the floor before you start, to protect the wheel face when it comes off the hub. ![]() |

FWIW ... I'd use a lump hammer and a bit of 4x2 and jack it up - but hit it from behind the wheel, and rotate it 90 degrees between hits... Make sure the wood's on the rim not on the tyre then that way you get more kinetic impact where you need it, rather than wasting energy bouncing the hammer off the tyre... G |

Hi Good luck with taking it off Remember: before it goes back on try to put small amount of aluminium grease onto threads for ease of removal next time Hope you manage to remove without damage Cheers steve |

Talk of thread greasing will start an argument, but Id definitely smear something on the rear mating face of the wheel. |

and give the mating surfaces a good wire brushing before you apply the grease. They can get very dirty and cruddy which is probably causing the problem. I would advise having an assistant to pull on the wheel and catch it as you 'persuade' it from behind |

Run the wheel nuts back a few threads and drive back and forward turning the steering wheel quickly side to side and the weight on the wheel will break the grip on the wheel/hub.....5/10 mph Max .....never failed yet |

The wheel greasing issue has indeed generated great debate, but the fact is that you should never lubricate mating surfaces of assemblies that are intended to resist shear forces ,like the inner wheel (aluminium) to hub on our cars. The wheel nuts/studs when tightened to the correct torque values will exert enough compression to create sufficient friction to drive the wheels. Lubricant destroys this friction and transmits shear to the studs. I spoke to a service manager at one of the South Coast OPC's about this issue, and he said that they apply a thin coat of aluminium grease ( there is a special one Porsche use, can't remember it's name) on these surfaces . I asked him to check with Porsche for their guidance, he came back to me by email to say that they were not using this product on wheels anymore!! except on the wheel nut to nut bearing surface on the wheel. This was all very interesting but not conducive to removing your seized on wheels!! Try to have spotless mating surfaces, this will help. Never use copper slip (great product, but not for this job) on aluminium wheels/hubs, if you must use grease make sure its an ally base, like the stuff I could not remember earlier.Maybe a bigger lump of wood will help! We have all been in your shoes at some time, I am sure. |

Guys, Thanks for your input . To add to my problem, one aluminium wheel bolt has just sheered, leaving half of it left right against the wheel/ hub aaaaaaargh ![]() |
